Description: An important Common Core skill is comparing and contrasting by teaching students to look at what is the same and what is different between two things. Here is a set of 20 Boom Cards to give students practice in comparing and contrasting two high-interest photos. Most deal with science topics such as comparing tigers and lions, sharks and whales, and ferns and mosses. There are other fun topics to compare and contrast such as a canoe and a yacht, strawberries and blueberries, and hot air balloons and kites. These activities are ideal for sharpening critical thinking skills. Students read the clues, type in A., B., or C. for all four statements and click Submit. Remind students that answers can be used more than once. TEACHING TIPS: • Encourage students to use reference materials if they aren't sure of a fact presented. • Use the Compare and Contrast photo prompts as springboards for writing essays. Ask students to select their favorite card and write an essay comparing and contrasting the two topics. • Ask students to make a Venn diagram to contrast and compare two items. A version of Compare and Contrast is also available as reproducible Task Cards in my store, Pizzazz Learning, on TpT. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Pizzazz-Learning Boom Learning℠ and Boom Cards™ are the trademarks of Boom Learning Inc.
