Description: Help your students spell words with the diphthongs OU and OW. . This Drag & Spell activity mimics the magnetic tiles used in many Orton-Gillingham programs, and it's a great way to build phonics knowledge & spelling skills. Using Elkonin boxes & letter tiles with one sound per letter also builds phonemic awareness & orthographic mapping, which leads to better reading fluency! This deck covers BOTH parts of the spelling rule: the first half has OU only in the middle and OW only at the end of the word, then the second part explains that OW can also be used before N or L. The cards after that only contain -OWN or -OWL words. How it Works: Students see a picture and click to hear the word. Then they drag letter tiles into boxes to spell the word. Good to Know: • There are 35 cards: two instructional cards that explain the spelling rule & 33 spelling cards. • All words are 1 syllable & range from 2-5 phonemes. • Words with consonant blends & digraphs are included, as well as a couple of triple blends (spr-). If you'd prefer to avoid these, you can easily hide these cards. There are also some silent E word (bounce, mouse, house) but the silent E is already placed on the card. • You can hide cards to show just Part 1 or 2 of the deck to match which part of the spelling rule you've taught.
