This 33-card scavenger hunt that can be used to as a review or teach students about the Pony Express mail service that operated during the Westward Expansion of the United States. While completing the hunt, students will learn where the service operated, what the most dangerous job in the Pony Express was, how much it cost to mail a letter, why it closed, and more? To complete the hunt, answer 16 multiple-choice questions. First, they read a question and its possible answers. Then they read the information that will help them answer it. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If their answer is incorrect, they can reread the text to find the correct answer. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned about the people of the Pony Express. The hunt can be used to supplement a study of Westward Expansion or the Pony Express, to practice reading informational text, for history or reading centers, or and as an easy activity for a sub.
