Description: This is an interactive qualitative basic concept Hard or Soft differentiated activity. Students are presented with 3 different expanding utterances activities with the basic concepts HARD OR SOFT! Students are given 20 different hard vs. soft items! The following 3 levels are included in this activity: 1) 2-Word Phrases (Adjective + Noun) - Students are asked "What do you see?" Students are provided with a blank 2-word phrase (e.g. describe + noun). Students are asked to drag and drop the correct descriptive concept (e.g. hard/soft) into the first blank space and the noun pictured into the second blank space. 2) Expanding Utterances: Labeling Hard or Soft - Students are provided with a question "Is the ___ hard or soft." For example, "is the teddy bear hard or soft." Students are given a visual sentence starter such as "the rock is ___." Students are asked to drag and drop the correct descriptive term (e.g. hard or soft) to complete the sentence. 3) 4 Word Phrases (I See + Adjective + Noun): - Students are asked "what do you see?" Students are provided with a visual sentence starter (I see a ___ ___). This helps students form utterances such as "I see a soft pillow." Some of the following goals can be targeted during this activity: - Expanding Utterances and Increasing MLU - Basic Concepts (e.g. identifying and labeling hot vs. soft concepts) - Following Directions with Basic Concepts - Describing (e.g. color, attributes, color, adjectives, function, etc.)
