Description

šŸš‚ When c is followed by an e, i, y it says /s/. šŸš‚ When it is followed by any other letter it says /k/. šŸš‚ The railway crossing sign reminds you of the phonics rule and helps you decide what track the train car should go on as you drive it down and sound out the word on the train car sorting it into /k/ or /s/ sound of the letter C. šŸš‚ It contains 30 real words and 10 nonsense words so you can really see if they can sound this phonics rule out. šŸš‚ The C letter is found in all places in words in this deck (beginning, middle, and end). šŸš‚ If they can't read the word (ex. exceed), they can still use this deck to learn to look AFTER the C to see if the letter is an {e, i, y} and the C says /s/ or another letter and the C says /k/. ⚔ Self-Checking, great to assign with a fastpin for independent work and immediate results. šŸš‚ This set also has a pretty comprehensive review of many phonics sounds: most vowel sounds to include digraphs and diphthongs, consonant digraphs /sh, ch, th/, and blends cl, cr, sc. (This is commonly called hard and soft c, but I do not teach my students this. I think it is very confusing and simply not needed, especially for my language impaired students.) I teach them that c does not have a sound and it borrows the /k/ sound most of the time, but if it has an e, i, or y after the c then it borrows the /s/ sound. This boom card deck is practice to make that visual. Ms. Coyle MS CCC/SLP
