Description: Understanding paragraphs is an essential skill for academic success for all of our students. Students need to be able to sift through the information to find the topic and main idea. Students also need to be able to use the context to determine the meaning of new and unfamiliar words. No picture cues are provided to make this activity a more challenging task. These Boom Cards present a high-interest, short informational paragraph. Students are then asked to choose the topic or main idea. Tier 2 vocabulary words are selected from the paragraph. Students are then asked to use context clues to determine the meaning of these words.
