Description: Formal or informal? This deck of cards is intended to teach and help students understand what makes a situation formal or informal. Introductory slides explain the difference between "formal" and "informal" situations. Two slides have students select synonyms for the words, "formal" and "informal." The next section of cards contains: *a photograph, *information about the sitution, *two choices (formal or informal). The next section covers code switching. Student are given a situation and a photograph. They decide if it is a formal or informal situation. Then, an additional piece of information is given and students must decide if they would then code-switch. Drag and drop: students drag descriptors of formal/informal communication to the applicable situation. This is a perfect set for introducing a unit on formal and informal tone and communication. Multiple skin colors are represented. Students can click on the microphone icon to hear directions and questions.
