Description: These Boom Cards work on figurative language. There are different tasks for similes, metaphors, alliteration, idioms, onomatopoeia, hyperbole and personification. There are yes/no questions, multiple choice questions, fill in the blank and written responses. Most fill in the blanks are set to open response. The only ones that are self grading are the onomatopoeia responses. Card 1: Menu card Card 2 – 13: Similes. Definition page, 5 pages to write what is being compared, 5 cards to explain the simile, 1 page to write similes with words provided. Card 14 – 25: Metaphors. Same as similes. Card 26 - 32: Alliteration. Definition page, 3 pages to complete alliteration sentences, 1 page to write alliteration sentences with given words, 2 pages to determine if an example is an alliteration or not. Card 33 - 44: Idioms. Definition page, 10 pages to determine the meaning of an idiom (multiple choice), 1 page to write their own idioms. Card 45 - 56: Onomatopoeia. Definition page, 5 pages to complete a sentence with an example of onomatopoeia. 5 pages to determine the example of onomatopoeia (multiple choice). Card 57 - 62: Hyperbole. Definition page, 2 pages to determine if a sentence is a hyperbole or not, 3 pages to rewrite a sentence into an example of a hyperbole. Card 63 –71: Personification. Definition page, 5 pages to write what is being personified, 2 pages to determine if a sentence is an example of personification, 1 page to write their own examples of personification
