Description: This deck should used by a qualified speech therapist who has determined that this pair of sounds are appropriate for the client. It can be used both in a session and for distance learning. It is also useful for reinforcement after a session under the supervision of a trained helper. Targeting auditory discrimination, isolation of sounds (using the touch and say) approach and the use of target words in formulaic sentences when playing the "spot the difference" game . Based on an approach by Carol Koch and others- maximally different sounds may be easier to learn due to the greater salient differences between contrasted sounds. According to research done by Gierut (1989, 1990), using maximal contrast pairs resulted in greater improvement in target sounds, more additions of untreated sounds and less over generalization to known sounds, There may be a reorganization of the child's phonological system.
