Distinguishing between long and short vowel sounds can be tricky for early readers! RF.1.2c Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words. RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. RF.2.3a Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words.
