Description: Help your students spell words with long O vowel teams OA, OW, OE. This Drag & Spell activity mimics the magnetic tiles used in many Orton-Gillingham programs, and it's a great way to build phonics & spelling skills. Using Elkonin boxes & letter tiles with one sound per letter also builds phonemic awareness & orthographic mapping, which leads to better reading fluency! Covers CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.3.C, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.2.3.B: know common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds How it Works: Students see a picture and hear the word. Then they drag letter tiles into boxes to spell the word. Good to Know: • There are 41 cards: two instructional cards that explain the rule and 39 spelling cards. • Part 1 focuses on OA & OW, and Part 2 focuses on OE. You can easily hide the second part (OE) if you'd rather skip those cards. • Words range from 2-5 phonemes. • At the end of Part 1, there are a few 2-syllable words. You can hide these words if you think they'd be too challenging for students. • Words with consonant blends & digraphs are included, as well as a digraph blend (thr-). You can easily hide these cards if you'd rather avoid them. • All OW words have a long O sound, as in snow. For practice with the vowel teams OU & OW (as in cow), please see the OU or OW? deck in my store.
