Description: This deck is designed for students who are learning or need practice with rounding. Cards 4-13 include the option for students to use movable Kingdom of Rounding pieces before clicking their answer. This allows students to learn how to focus on the necessary digits needed to round the number. Before giving the students numbers to round, I always teach them the story of The Kingdom of Rounding. I refer back to the story as we round numbers. Cards 1-3 Walk students through how to round using the Kingdom of Rounding pieces. 4-8: 2 digits, with Kingdom of Rounding movable pieces 9-13: 3 digits, with Kingdom of Rounding movable pieces 14-23: 2 digits 24-34: 3 digits 33-39: 4 digits Kingdom of Rounding Story There once was The Kingdom of Rounding. The king of this land has a difficult time making decisions. He always turns to his messenger for advice. His messenger sits on the king's right side. When the king is asked to round a number he calls out to his messenger. "What do I do? What do I do?' The messenger only has two answers for the king. If the messenger is the number 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 he answers, "Stay the same." If the messenger is a 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 he answers, "Get bigger by one." After the messenger has given his message to the king he and any of his friends (numbers behind him) leave because his job is done. Once they are gone there is 'nothing' left. To show nothing they are each replaced with a zero to show where they once sat.
