Description: Phonological Awareness is the foundation for Reading and Writing success. Students who have phonological awareness know that language is made up of words, rhymes, syllables, and sounds. In this game students listen to one syllable words and match words to create a two syllable compound word. After they make a real compound word, students make a "silly" compound word by putting any two words together and then count the syllables. The purpose of this game is for students to hear and identify the words that make up a compound word and count the syllables in the words when blended together. This game is also part of a growing bundle of phonological awareness activities. Created by Deanna Jump and Jessica Corbett
