Description: Concept of number with ten frames 1-10 Made for teachers to teach kids about concept of numbers using ten frames. The ten frame is a simple graphic tool that allows kids to "see" numbers. They provide a visual representation for numbers which are too abstract for young kids to understand and also help older kids deepen their understanding of the value of numbers. What's in this deck: Cards 1-10 - Type the value of ten frame Cards 11-20 - Choose the correct ten frame according to the number given Directions for teachers: Cards 1-10: Ask students to count the tokens (airplane icon) in the ten frame. Guide kids to think of the numbers in terms of their relationship to ten. Example 1 - the number 5 ten frame illustrates the idea that 5+5=10. It also suggests that half of 10 is 5. Example 2 - the number 8 ten frame shows that 8=10-2 as there was 2 tokens missing in the ten frame. It also represents 8=5+3 because the top row (which was 5) were full and there're 3 additional tokens in the bottom row. Cards 11-20: Ask students to visualize the ten frame of the value provided. Guide them using the sense of ten and its subgroups (9+1, 8+2, 7+3, 6+4, 5+5, etc) to choose the correct ten frame provided. Teachers could also tell older students to draw the ten frame using a blank piece of paper before revealing the answer.
