Description: Need some alphabetical order practice for your beginner adult ESL students that DON'T that reek of cutesy? Beginner adult ESL students know that they have to practice the foundations, but they don't want to use the same materials that kids do. This deck gives them the practice they need without making them feel like they are back in kindergarten. Each card has four words that students will drag and drop into alphabetical order. For most cards, students only need to look at the first letter of each word. For a few, they have to look at the first two letters. Only one card requires them to look beyond that, and I made the letters bold on those words to really draw their attention to them. I chose words that they likely either already know or will know soon (colors, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, body parts, and weather. I also chose words that they likely don't know but would be interested in, emotion words. These themes are NOT mixed up. There aren't number words on the same card as emotion words, for example. This makes it easier for them to recognize the meaning of words and for you to choose only certain themed cards to assign to them if you wish. Before assigning the deck to your students, remember to tell them that this is meant to practice alphabet recognition and alphabetical order--NOT word meaning. Be sure to check out the rest of my adult ESL store. There are more alphabet cards as well.
