Matching sentences to pictures is a simple, yet effective, way to get students reading controlled, decodable sentences containing consonant blends while tapping into comprehension and vocabulary knowledge. Students must not only READ the sentences, but demonstrate comprehension by selecting the sentence that best matches the picture provided. This download contains 72 unique pictures with three decodable sentences per picture (216 decodable sentences to read). Sentences are organized by blend pattern (24 CCVC sentences, 24 CVCC sentences, CCVCC sentences). Students should read all three sentences and select the one that best matches the picture. The BOOM Deck is self-correcting with immediate feedback. This activity is designed to encourage the re-reading of sentences in order to build fluency, comprehension, and confidence!
