Description: This is a pack of problem solving scenarios task cards to help elementary students work through the concept of when to follow the rules, and when the circumstance is an exception to the rule. Many of my students are sticklers for the rules. This certainly can work in their favour in many ways, however this can also backfire and cause issues for them in their environments. It is heartbreaking to hear when my students have an toiling accident in the classroom because they knew they were only allowed to go during lunch and recess. Whilst yes, rules are there to be followed, most of us use our logical thinking to determine when to follow these important rules, and when we need to adjust our response to ensure our own welfare is taken care of. Many of my students are unable to do this and this can lead to negative (and sometimes dangerous) outcomes. These cards will introduce this concept to your students and will help them to practice differentiating between the times where they SHOULD follow the rule, and when there may be an exception to the rule. Regular education teachers, special education teachers, SLPs, or other support professionals could all benefit from using these task cards with their students! These cards are specifically designed for elementary students.
