Description: Students start by estimating how long a student desk and connecting cube are. Then students decide on which tool would be best to measure the length of a basketball court, domino piece, and soccer ball and explain why they chose that tool. Finally students measure the length of two objects using moveable rulers in both inches and centimeters. They answer questions about which unit required more of that unit to measure the object and explain why that happens. This Boom Deck is perfectly aligned to CCSS 2.MA.A.1, 2.MD.A.2, and 2.MD.A.3: -Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes. -Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen. -Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
