Overture Music Lessons

About me: Hi! I'm Susan, the owner of Overture Music Lessons, a private music studio in the Greater Boston area specializing in flute and piano instruction for students of all ages and abilities. 📚 I like to think of myself as an educator first and a musician second. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2002 and spent seven years as a classroom teacher in Texas and Missouri before opening my private studio here in Boston. ♬ This experience shaped how I approach private lessons, allowing me to lesson plan and teach with the insight of a seasoned educator. More than 40 credit hours in music theory, performance, and music education have given me fluency across multiple instruments, musical genres, and pedagogies. 🎹 I’ve been fortunate to run my music studio for over 20 years. About five years ago, I began writing music, designing workbooks, and creating games to support the unique needs of my academically-diverse students. Many of the activites and lessons you’ll find here started as custom tools for specific students or classes. 💜 In my spare time, I enjoy knitting, making art, and volunteering for the local music theater programs and elementary school chorus. There’s always a new score on my music stand so that I never forget what it feels like to be the student learning something new and challenging.
