Description: This Boom Deck begins with colour recognition. It then continues on to counting cars / cats / trains in slides that also work on visual perception skills. This may be helpful for you to see where your students strengths and needs are in this area when engagement with other assessments / screeners is difficult. Visual Perception is the process of the brain understanding what the eyes see and making sense of it. Visual Perception skills play an important role in your students ability to play, learn and develop functional skills. The slides include; Form Constancy - Do your students have the ability to recognise the train or cat if the size, orientation or colour is different? Critical for reading and copying from the board. This can also impact on attention and focus. Visual Discrimination - Do your students recognise features such as the size, colour, shape of a picture? Critical for correcting errors, recognising letters and numbers, letter formation, sorting and matching, reading, organisational skills and dressing skills. Figure-Ground - Do your students have the ability to focus on or locate an object in a busy background? Critical for attending to a word on a page, handwriting, sorting and organising, finding items, attending to a task at hand and copying from a board. Visual Closure - Do your students have the ability to visualise the whole picture when only part of it is seen? Critical for writing, reading, using worksheets, spelling, maths, solving puzzles.
