Description: ***The two cards REPEAT twice for easy replay. Use "next" and "go back" buttons to navigate. Race cars around a track. Change tires. Wash cars or tires with sponge or hose. Refill gas. Count laps. When you have a winner, go to the second card and have a winner's ceremony. Cars can crash or run out of gas. They get dirty or even tired. It's extra fun to have some real cars with you or with the child or both. Then you can also race your toy cars around the room, under the desk, into a drawer, across a dresser or table, etc. Toggle in and out of the play scene with your real-life scene. Take screenshots to send home with your student so they can show their family members what happened during "the big race." Plenty of articulation targets, basic concepts, and following/giving directions. Story narration and retell are also great targets to work on during this activity. Choice making, polite terms (the cars can even say "excuse me," "sorry" or "oops") and turn-taking are good social targets, not to mention social engagement through shared play. If you have a touch screen, you likely will be able to move several cars at the same time on your own screen, though probably not at the same time as your teletherapy student. Do a rec. lang. scavenger hunt for a few things before you begin this activity, rounding up toys by description (can you go get a toy that has four wheels and an engine that goes vroom?/ Can you go get something we can use to wash the car?).
