Description: Saying dates can be really challenging for our ESL students and young learners. It’s really important though as it is one of the first things they write in their notebooks everyday. >>The date in English: a step by step activity The cards are played in a specific order : - First, the days of the week: students listen and read them. Then, they have to fill in the blanks according to the sentence : “the first day of the week is …” Finally, they listen and have to write the day that is pronounced. Capital letters are important for this activity ! - The months of the year: it’s exactly the same. They listen and read, fill in the sentences and listen and write the months of the year. - Saying years : recap cards will allow students to review the basic rules for saying years. An example is provided for each situation (+ a recording). Then, they will have to write the dates in letters and finally, they will listen to a recording and fill in the blanks. All sentences are history-related. - Ordinal numbers in English: a recap followed by exercises. Students have to write the ordinal number in letters. Students are now ready to write the date in English. - First, they have to write the dates in letters, the way it is pronounced. - This last exercise focuses on writing dates (not in letters but the way they are usually written). They will have to listen to a recording and type their answer in the text box.
