Description: This deck includes a 2-minute, 45-second video that offers a non-partisan explanation of swing states in the 2020 American presidential election. Other vocabulary words covered include battleground state, purple state and tossup. The narrator (Kelly Bostrom Robic) explains that not everyone agrees on which states are truly swing states and cites national media outlets and which states they are reporting about as swing or battleground states. There is a brief discussion about why swing states get more attention than others (electoral votes!) and an explanation about candidates needing 270 electoral votes to win. The term safe state is explained, along with examples of such states for both Democrats and Republicans. The video concludes with a reminder of the election date and a comment that experts don't all believe that results will be available on the 3rd, that some say we may need to wait days or weeks for the results. I worked as a radio and TV reporter before becoming a teacher. The video is narrated with a standard American accent. It is a very simplistic presentation of the subject. The deck includes 14 Boom Cards with multiple choice and true or false questions.
