If you are looking for a nonfiction comprehension resource that focuses on main idea and concrete details, this one will help. I created this main idea resource for upper elementary (grades 4-5) students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of nonfiction texts by choosing the most appropriate details that support the main ideas . I wrote the passages to be just long enough for teachers to quickly assess whether students know the skill. the main ideas are listed and students must choose between two details that directly support that main idea. Use this deck as part of your literacy block, intervention, or whole group guided reading. The topics can be springboards for further research.
