Understanding how to find the main idea in nonfiction texts is a complicated skill for students to understand both in life and print. This set of task cards will ask students to analyze the text and figure out the main idea. To engage students in work, they can compete in a soccer shootout against a partner or by themselves. Not only is mastering the skill of figuring out the main idea in nonfiction text difficult but finding evidence to support an answer is equally challenging. Both skills are practiced using these cards! The first 10 task cards ask students to pick evidence from a list, while the last 10 task cards ask students to highlight/write the proof in the box provided. These task cards are perfect for centers, bell-ringer activities, formative assessments, and even whole-class instruction.
