Description
If you use Words Their Way to assess your students, but some of your students can't write yet (due to a disability or for other reasons), this assessment is for you! I like to do this while sitting with students to make sure they stay focused. I use the normal WTW recording sheet and write down their selection for each word. Then, I can score it the same way I score other students' scores. This assessment is particularly helpful for students who are pre-writers AND non-verbal. There is evidence that even students who don't speak can benefit from phonics instruction, and this assessment can give you valuable data about what they can and cannot read.
