Description

This 27-card scavenger hunt will teach students about the Native Americans who served in the military as code talkers. While completing the hunt, students will learn students will learn when the military first used Code Talkers, why they were so successful in transmitting messages, what types of codes they used, and more. To complete the hunt, students answer 13 multiple-choice questions. First, they read a question and its possible answers. Then, they read a passage that will help them answer it. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next questions. If they choose an incorrect answer, they can revisit the passage to find the correct one. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned from the hunt. It can be used as a Native American Heritage month activity, to supplement a study of American history, Native Americans, or World Wars I and II, to provide background information for a story, for social studies or reading centers, to practice reading informational text, or as an easy activity for a sub.
