Description: Your adult ESL students who struggle with the short vowels will love this challenge because they can work on improving their ability to distinguish these sounds at their own pace and in the privacy of their own homes. This deck will give them lots of practice in distinguishing between the tricky short vowel sounds of a-e-i. I created this deck of short vowel phonemes with adult students in mind. It is not designed to appeal to young children. Each card has a list of THREE minimal triplets, one for each of our short vowel sounds of a-e-i. In IPA, these sounds are represented by /æ/, /ɛ/, /ɪ/. I've found these to be especially problematic for Arabic-speaking students, which is why I made this deck. Student will hear a word and then select the word they heard from the list of three words. Audio is set to play automatically, and students may click on the icon to listen again as many times as they want. There are 15 sets of minimal triplets. This was originally a deck of 30 minimal triplets, but a 90 card deck proved rather unwieldy even for my quite good internet connection. I worried about students' connection speed. Get both decks together in the bundle to get all the pairs (and save some money!). Please be sure to check out all my other pronunciation-related decks. In fact, my whole store is adult ESL, so if that's what you teach, you've just hit the jackpot!
