Description: This deck provides up to 320 opportunities to practice the phonological awareness skill of determining location of a sound within a word. Directions/Purpose: This activity targets phonological and phonemic awareness skills applicable for both articulation of speech sound production as well as pre-literacy skills.   Each page/card contains 10 images which contain the target phoneme in initial, medial, or final position of the word.  The adult can name the picture for an auditory model, or the student can name the image (therapist/teacher discretion). The student decides whether they hear the target phoneme at the beginning, middle, or end of the word.  The adult or student drags/drops the image to the correct box (Boxes are labeled to help the student understand the concept of position of sounds in words. The letter on the box does not always represent correct spelling as this is an auditory activity, not a phonics activity, (ex. "knife" is associated with the initial /n/). The letter is only presented to help the child understand location within the word).  Behind each image is a number.  This can be used to "score" the game. If you are working with a group, students can take turns.  If you are working 1:1, then you will take the role of player 2.  Take turns selecting a word and determining the location of the target phoneme.  Adult can add the totals to keep score.
