Sight Word Practice: Color Words, Color Sort

Description: This activity is purposely designed to practice word recognition and/or decoding skills. Since there is no audio, students must either use sight word knowledge or letter-sound associations to help them figure out which is the appropriate drop area for each color. (ie. 'black' starts with the sound /b/ so I know to look for the word that starts with letter 'b' --OR-- I hear the /k/ sound at the end of the word 'pink' so I know to look for the word with letter 'k' or 'c' at the end) For this reason, color words with the same first letter will NOT be on the same card, and there are only two color options per card. In order to "complete" the card, students must drop at least one item of each color into the correct box.
