Description: Use these self-checking task cards to help your students practice identifying the sound of string, brass, and woodwind instruments. Project on the big screen for a whole class activity or assign to students on their devices. Included are 14 instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass, oboe, bassoon, flute, clarinet, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Each instrument appears twice, once where the sound is given with three instrument choices and once where the instrument is given with three sound choices. As students complete the activity, you might consider asking questions such as: • What made you choose that answer? • How would you describe the sound of this instrument? • How does this instrument sound different from others? For reference, these are the pieces excerpted for each instrument: Violin - Partita No. 2: Chaconne (Bach) Viola - Harold in Italy: Mvt. I (Berlioz) Cello - Suite No. 1 in G Major (Bach) Double Bass - Symphony No. 9: Mvt.
