Description: CCSS RF.1.2 In this phonemic awareness activity, students will practice syllable deletion in 2 syllable words. They will listen to a "teacher" say a word then ask them to say it without a part of it, either the 1st or last syllable. They will listen to "children" respond, and then decide which child is correct. Teaching syllable deletion to 1st-grade students with 2-syllable words can be a valuable phonological awareness exercise. It helps children recognize and manipulate the sounds in words, improving their reading readiness.
