This i37-card scavenger hunt can be used as a Native American Heritage Month activity or as a supplement to a study of Native Americans. It covers 18 Native Americans descendants and their impact on America. While completing the hunt, students will learn about the lives and accomplishments of 18 different modern-day Native Americans that lived from the late 1800s to now. Covered in the hunt are Wilma Mankiller, Will Rogers, Sonny Sixkiller, Susan La Flesche, Sharice Davids, Robbie Hood, Mary Youngblood, Mary Brave Bird, Marie Bottineau-Baldwin, Maria Tallchief, John Herrington, John Eastman, Jim Thorpe, Debra Haaland, Dave Anderson, Charlene Teters, Carlos Montezuma, and Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Each card covers a single individual from the time of their birth to their death or present-day situation, tells their tribe, and covers their lives and accomplishments. To complete the hunt, students answer 18 multiple-choice questions. First, they read a question and its possible answers. Then they read information that will help them answer it. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If they choose an incorrect answer, they can revisit the information to find the correct one. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned from the hunt. It is a great activity for Native American heritage month, social studies or reading centers, to practice reading information text, or as an easy activity for a sub.
