Description: In this chemistry boom deck students are given a conceptual and practical example of calculating average atomic mass. Students help farmer Pasteur determine the average mass of his pumpkins based on natural abundance and mass to safely transport them to market. Students are asked to calculate the percentage of pumpkins of each mass. Natural abundance is then defined and examples of predicting mass based on natural abundance are given. Students are then asked to consider the mass of the pumpkins in relation to the natural abundance and asked to find the weighted average mass. Average atomic mass is then defined and applied with the mathematical formula. Finally students are given traditional chemistry problems involving average atomic mass. This deck is special because it features FLOW MAGIC, which directs students to hints and tips when they enter an incorrect answer. They can not proceed until they study the hints and get the question right. Since this deck features flow magic and process guided inquiry it is the PERFECT lesson plan for sub days, make-up labs, homework, introduction to average atomic mass, test review and much much more!
