Description

This deck is designed for use with a speech-language pathologist (SLP), educator or therapist in an individual or small group setting. It targets social-emotional learning and perspective-taking skills through inferencing and verbal expression. Each card features a real-life photograph paired with a short story about a character experiencing a specific emotion. The SLP reads the story aloud while the student views the image. The student is then asked an open-ended question such as "How is she feeling right now? What clues from the picture tell you that?" — encouraging them to use both the story context and visual body language cues to identify and explain the character's feelings. This deck includes 10 cards covering a range of emotions including: comfort, boredom, frustration, surprise, excitement, sadness, anxiety, embarrassment, happiness, and calm. Skills targeted: Identifying emotions in others Using context clues and body language to infer feelings Verbal expression and open-ended responding Perspective-taking and social inferencing Best for: Middle school students | Grades 6–10 | Individual or small group therapy No typing required. All responses are given verbally. This deck is intended to be facilitated by an adult and is not designed for independent student use.
