If so, these decks can help In the California Gold Rush hunt, students learn who discovered gold, how miners panned for it, why the rush ended, and more. Then, in the Notable People hunt, students learn about bandit Black Bart, what Levi Strauss did during the Gold Rush that helped him start his denim empire, how the Gold Rush helped Mark Twain become a famous writer, why James Marshall and John Sutter died bitter men, and more. In each hunt students answer multiple-choice questions. First, they read a question and its possible answers. Then they read information that will help them answer it. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If their answer is incorrect, they can revisit the passage again to find the correct answer. The final card in each hunt challenges students to write 3 interesting facts they learned from the hunt. These hunts can be used to supplement a study of the Gold Rush or Westward Expansion, provide background information for a story, to practice reading informational text, for reading or history centers, or as easy activities for a sub.
